Statutory mandate

Day-to-day management of all post primary schools and institutions in the state, subject to the general direction of the Honourable Commissioner for Education.

Inspection of teaching, learning and school administration against defined quality indices, including unannounced visits by the monitoring team.

Collection of school fees and other revenue accruing to the Commission, within the limits of the state's free education policy.

Investigation of matters affecting post primary schools and related institutions, and discipline of staff and students where findings require it.

Establishment of schemes for the professional development of teaching and non-teaching staff across the six zones.

Consultation with and advice to the Ministry of Education on post primary education policy, staffing and school infrastructure.
